Remote measurements on fleet cars
Brake system components were instrumented and installed in a fleet of
full-sized cars operating in a metropolitan area. Pad and rotor temperatures
were measured using embedded thermocouples. Triaxial accelerometers mounted
on the caliper housings measured vibration and chatter during braking. Data
was downloaded using a cell phone link. Additional information on the
braking events was provided through driver survey responses. Data was
analyzed to explain warranty claims.

Benefit: Data collected from this
commercial vehicle reflected actual driver usage
patterns and operating conditions in this big city
environment.
Services:
Custom instrumentation
Unattended field data acquisition
