custom transducer design

Modern digital technology makes it possible to directly measure forces and processes that may have been only approximated before. Integral structural components of your product can be modified to function as custom load sensors that are superior to off-the-shelf sensors because they fit without interfering with the physical forces being measured.

Components as vulnerable as the cupholder in a car or beefy as a truck axle can be instrumented to capture the information your technical and design staffs need to address warranty issues and improve product performance.

Example: Front Spindle Loads.  A SixD engineer designed and implemented instrumentation to measure loads on the stock spindle of a large mining truck. The 2700-lb spindle itself was instrumented to take decoupled orthogonal measurements of tire patch loads for use in a vehicle ride and handling model. Hardened packaging was also required to withstand usage in the field. The spindle was calibrated in the lab, installed on a vehicle, and then run through ride and handling courses at a proving ground to measure vehicle response.

Other transducers developed from structural components:

Automotive & off-highway:

  Hitch pins
  Body mounts
  Wheel spindles
  3-point hitches
  PTO shafts
  Drive shafts
  Body panels
  Motor & trans-    mission mounts
  Exhaust & suspension components
  Control arms
  Jounce bumpers

More:
  High-speed railcar bodies
  Office furniture desktops
  Pressure vessel panels
  Industrial process chain links

custom test systems

A single sensor or fixturing design may be adapted to test an entire product line; for example, a PTO shaft that can be mounted on various tractor models in the field to gather operating data.

Sensors, fixtures, connectors, wires, and necessary tools can be bundled as a complete test package that can be integrated with your data acquisition equipment and test software.

Our engineers can train your technical staff to install and use the hardware and run the tests, eliminating the need for outside assistance for your test program.
