Overcoming limits on service life
An off-highway equipment manufacturer was developing
a new component on its road grader to improve
operator visibility. Before releasing the new
design, the company wanted to validate the
durability life based on expected customer usage.
SixD engineers helped the company
develop and implement a durability program for the component. Representative
service loads were measured, then reduced to block loading histories for testing.
Using a large test frame available
in-house and the vehicle’s hydraulic system, our engineers designed a
cost-effective test rig to apply accelerated customer usage loading to the
component.
Benefit: Data from these tests were used to validate the
new component and redesign other components that might limit the service
life, improving confidence in the reliability of the new design.
